The area is one of the oldest parts of Dublin and has been through many ups and downs with shifting popularity and fashion trends through the centuries.
Temple Bar is situated north of the main river, Liffey, south of the famous Dame Street, east of O’Connel Street and to the west of Christ Church Cathedral.

An urban legend says that Temple Bar takes its name from the namesake pub whose name originates from the prohibition of Jews in the bar.
The buildings of the Temple Bar area reflect many different architectural styles. The oldest types of houses in Temple Bar can be dated back to the mid-eighteenth century and the whole area is one of the best kept areas of Dublin.
We have interviewed the 2.d student Andreas Nielsen about his experience of the Temple Bar district.
Andreas what do you think about Temple Bar? “It is a great place with a lot of life and happy people in the evenings”, says Andreas. “There are a lot of great pubs to visit and there is always something to do and some place to go.”
What is your favorite place in Temple Bar to? “The great thing about Temple Bar is that there are so many different places to choose from, so you don’t really need one good place only, because there are so many things going on in so many different pubs, but if I had to name one good place it has to be Fitzsimmons which is a 4-leveled building complete with a bar, discotheque and a great sky terrace.”

When you are in Temple Bar you have to and get a pint of Guinness at one of the many pubs and experience the Dubliners´ cultural life. In many pubs you can see folksingers singing traditional Irish songs and you’ll see the Dubliners singing along to songs like “Wild Rover” and “Whiskey in the Jar”.
When you are in Dublin, Temple bar is definitely a must-see!
