Marian college lies in a residential area in the city of Dublin. When you look at the College from the outside, you get the impression that it’s a well preserved building. When we got into the hall, we weren’t disappointed at all. It was very clean, and bore the stamp of Catholic values. We later went into the classrooms, and our enthusiasm fell apart. The classrooms were very run-down, and were marked by many years with no renovation. Although the classrooms were old and the toilets primitive, the students seemed satisfied.
We followed some lessons, and compared to our lessons in Denmark, they are very old-school. The students do not have any kind of group work, they have traditional classroom teaching.. They have no computer in the classrooms; they only have the black board and an old overhead projector.

The private life
We talked with a boy from the college, about his private life. We were interested in how his relationship to girls was, if he did any kinds of sport and how his social life was compared to the youngster’s social life here in Denmark.
Martin Langdon, 16, said: “Of course we talk to girls. Boys and girls are together when we party, and we know them from our neighborhood. When it comes to sport, then we have a lot of different sports to choose from at the school. I play, for example, rugby. There are a lot of other kinds of sport;, soccer, table tennis, water polo, hurling etc. I don’t know so much about Denmark, but I have heard that you guys drink a lot and go to parties every weekend. Therefore I think that we spend more time on homework and studies than you. ”
Religion
At Marian College religion also plays a part. It is a Catholic school and it is an advantage to be catholic but not a necessity. They admit students from all social classes and you do not have to be of the Catholic persuasion to go to Marian college. They are actually proud of having a socially diversified student body.
